Mithila is one of the most ancient landmarks in Indian history. It has a glorious past and a culture of scholarship and virtues. Mithila is named after Mithi, the son of Maharaja Nimi who was cursed by Vashisth to die. As Mithi was born out of the churn of Nimi, the kings of Mithila were called Janak or self-born. Today, Mithila is spread over northern and eastern districts of Bihar in India, and southern districts of Nepal. It is well accessible by air routes through Patna, Darbhanga and Janakpur, and through rail and road. The palaces, temples and its unique culture and art are must to do things in Mithila.
